LECTURE – MUSIC AS A SOURCE OF CALM AND JOY
Hearing is one of the few senses we cannot switch off. This means that the sounds around us constantly reach us — evoking emotions and associations. Sound and music can stimulate or soothe, inspire or irritate. They can make us want to linger in a space or leave it quickly. Their influence on us — both subconscious and conscious — is profound.
We’ve all experienced how music we enjoy can lift our mood and create a sense of emotional well-being. These pleasant feelings often lead to new thoughts and ideas, which may result in new actions — in other words, change. Music has a powerful effect on our mental health, sense of well-being, and even our productivity. It can energize us when needed or help reduce stress and tension. Music supports mental clarity and emotional resilience.
In this lecture, I explore the core impact areas of music and how music is used in therapeutic contexts — especially to support mental health and emotional balance.
I’ll also share fascinating findings from music psychology research and explain how music is used in marketing to shape perception. Participants will gain insight into the value of sound design and how music and sound can add depth and emotional resonance to a brand.
As someone who has worked extensively with sound design in public spaces, I’ll also discuss how soundscapes influence us in everyday environments — often in ways we don’t even notice.
The lecture is interactive and richly illustrated with musical and auditory examples, allowing participants to directly feel and reflect on the impact of music.
